Harvest Moon over a Small Town Artisan Sterling Silver Cuff Bracelet

BR2051

Inspired by the moon over the Colorado Front range while driving West on I70 late at night, this artistic sterling silver bracelet was handcrafted to capture the illusionary images of an almost 2 dimensional Small Town in the shadow of the grand mountain backdrop under the low light of the dreamy moon.

The design of the bracelet began by sawing a rectangular flat band from a solid 18 gauge sterling sheet and fusing the individual hand sawed elements such as a the mountains, tree, and stylized structures to the base using an acetylene torch. Engraved freehand lines and soft etchings on the mountains provide three-dimensional effects to emphasize the mountains as a life-like main subject and focal point along with the amber moon while the town is more or less a cartoon in comparison to the overwhelming power of the landscape.

Darkened with a pewter black patina brushed onto the silver in varying amounts to produce the grey hues, the bracelet casts the metallic tones of a dark night lite by a silvery moon, however I decided to add warmth with a touch of mystical intrigue to the scene by placing an 8 mm orange amber stone as the moon. Before setting the amber stone and finishing the silver with a series of wire brushes to reveal surface highlights for added dimension, the bracelet was shaped over an ovular wooden mandrel by tapping with non-marking nylon mallets.

As photographed, this bracelet measures 6 inches long by 1.5 inches in width and will comfortably fit a medium sized wrist.
