Bringing a bit of steampunk industrial styling to my ring collections, this sterling silver ring captures a teeth pattern of a synchronizing gear and has darkened grooves for an enhanced three dimensional appearance. Perhaps one of my personal favourite rings in my collection for couples, this ring can be made as a set to represent the meshing of two gears that fit precisely together and turn in synchronization. The inside of the ring can be stamped with initials or a wedding date to complete the design with a personalized touch.

With a diameter of 4mm, this groovy ring is also perfect for stacking or wearing alone as a statement ring. The pure solid sterling silver grooved wire was cast with the teeth pattern, cut in the correct size as a flat band, and then worked into a loose ring shape to align the ends at the seams. Using a Hydroflux welder that produces a flame no wider than a pencil tip while producing a point temperature of 5000 F to both a perfect solder joint is produced while also fusing the metal together. Such a hot flame reduces fire scale and contaminants thereby creating an even stronger seam. A potassium sulphide based patina was then applied into the grooves with a fine paint brush to capture that three dimensional an antique appearance of a gear that has seen years of constant motion.
