Sterling silver butterfly on flower ring with pink ruby

  • $25000

Features a pink lab grown ruby, this butterfly cocktail ring was sawed by hand from 18 gauge sterling silver using a jewelry saw as an eye catching conversation piece fused with beauty of a realistic butterfly perched on a leaf. The flower was produced by sawing the five pedal flower from 18 gauge sterling silver as one continuous form and chasing the grooved leaf veins. The butterfly was also sawed from 18 gauge sterling silver and the wing cut outs were created by punching a pilot hole, feeding a fine jewelry blade through the hole, and sawing the fine details. I dapped the butterfly and flower on a steel block to create the curved shape which adds dimension and realism to the butterfly, while capturing the feeling of the butterfly being perched momentarily on a leaf. The curved surfaces of the wings reflect light thereby producing highlights. The ring shank was sheared and formed from 16 gauge sterling silver. I formed a semi round shape with a pliers, welded the ends together with an acetylene torch, and hammer the shank into a perfect ring on into a steel mandrel. A 3mm lab grown ruby with custom setting, the ring shank, flower form, and butterfly were welded together to create this ring. A dark patina was brushed onto the surfaces to add rich gray hues, depth, and warm tones to the sterling silver. The ring was then lightly polished to blend the patina and reveal just enough of the underlying sterling silver for a radiant glow.
