Incorporating the rustic flair of a hammered sterling silver band with the contrasting perfection of an isometric red garnet, this stacking or accent ring was handcrafted from start to finish with artistic inspiration for wearing with other rings or as a single ring while the red and silver glows provide a subtle yet intriguing combination of cold metallic shine with warmth fiery radiance.
Sheared from 18 gauge sterling silver 1.5 mm wide, the narrow band forms an elegant base ring while balancing the focus with the 3 mm garnet. The flat band was shaped into a perfect ring shape over a steel ring mandrel with a nylon hammer and using a Hydroflux Brazer along with sterling silver solder, the seam was fused together, polished smooth, and hammered to produce that rippled honeycomb texture. A bezel cup was fused to the outside of the ring to hold the stone securely in place and any fire scale is removed by pickling and hand-polished the sterling silver. Finally, a very small piece of white sponge was placed into the bottom of the cup to increase the luminosity of the red garnet, before setting the stone in place and locking the jaws.
