Aloft in the silvery skies of the last days of fall with the distant ruby rays of sun piercing the clouds, this pendant was created with artistic imagery of kite flying in a shadowbox from sterling silver and featuring a lab grown ruby. To construct the pendant, I pressed two 1 inch discs from thick 18 gauge sterling silver and sawed out the kite shape using a pierce and cut technique with a jewelry saw. The disc with the kite was soldered to the solid backing disc with high flow silver solder and an acetylene torch. A subtle grey patina creates the shadows in the tail, completes the shadowbox design, and provides contrast to the pink rays cast across the silver from the glowing 5mm ruby stone.
The pendant sails in the breeze suspended beautifully from a stainless steel ball chain that offers optimum resistance to corrosion and strength for everyday abuse and wear, however I also have a sturdy black leather cord or dressy sterling silver link chain available as options. You can also personalize this pendant with text on the backside, request a different stone, or even customize the design with any cut outs of your choosing in place of the kite.
