Balancing the rustic flair and metallic shine of the hammered sterling silver band with the intriguing cool blue glow of a topaz, this stacking ring was hand-crafted with artistic inspiration for wearing in combination with other rings or as a single accent ring.
Sheared from 18 gauge sterling silver, the narrow 1.5 mm wide band forms an elegant base ring creates the perfect background for keeping wandering eyes focused on the brilliant 3mm topaz. The flat band was shaped into a perfect ring shape over a steel ring mandrel with a nylon hammer and using a Hydroflux Brazer along with sterling silver solder, the seam was fused together, polished smooth, and hammered to produce that rippled honeycomb texture. A bezel cup was fused to the outside of the ring to hold the stone securely in place and any fire scale is removed by pickling and hand-polished the sterling silver. Finally, a very small piece of white sponge was placed into the bottom of the cup to increase the luminosity of the blue topaz, before setting the stone in place and locking the jaws.
