how to make cuff links -
cut out shapes with the jewelry saw as a base - I like to use 18 gauge metals . 18 gauge is 1mm thick and does not feel flimsy or bend easy- here its bronze
free hand draw a shape on copper
make sure that the second shape is smaller than the first
cut out shape with the jewelry saw
i can do that now in under 20 seconds
pretty small
tip - black nail polish hides chipped and cut up nails
make sure that both shapes fit well together and are as flat as can be
solder the guitar to the guitar pick shape
i use acetylene - air , some use acetylene - oxygen ( i find the air one easier to handle )
for small jobs i like to use the paste solder , sticks things together so you do not need to secure to much or hold down
dabbing block
put your pick face down in to the rounded hole
dabbing hammer - pund on it with nylon hammer to get the rounded shape
voila- domed shape
again use the paste solder to attach the link to the cuff link
i use a third hand , as mine is not steady enough
torch until you see the solder flowing
quench first and then put in pickle solution to get rid of the oxidation
take out of the pickle solution ( use copper tounges )
doesn't look to good yet :)
polish ( i use a flex shaft to get into all corners)
see the difference?
apply patina
polish again
voila - bronze and copper cuff links
