The silver square was individually cut 1 inch by 1 inch from solid 18 gauge sterling silver on a shear, stamped one letter at time, and a small heart cut out by hand using a fine fret saw. Since 18 gauge sterling silver is a full 1 mm thick, both sides of the keychain can be stamped without the lettering punching through or marring the opposite side. A patina is applied to darken the lettering for maximum contrast against the silver glow, before finishing with uni-directional brush strokes to produce a durable yet artistic burnish that embodies artisan character.
